Project Details
Located in Tennessee on the Appalachian Plateau, the Long Mountain Cabins draw their form and materiality from the local building vernacular and the surrounding site. Situated atop stone ‘cribs’ and chimney structures, the cabins sit lightly above the forest floor overlooking a nearby lake. Providing housing for students and faculty at an environmental education campus, each cabin contains wood-clad bunk-rooms and a light-filled common space able to accommodate a variety of activities from meals to informal classes. Bridging between the common rooms, a screen-porch joins the two cabins and completes the building.
