Project Details
Located next to a lake, the cabin takes its queues from the surrounding forest and color patterns to dissolve into its idyllic setting. Roof forms and building materials reflect the forest and farm house traditions of the area—shingle siding, metal roofs and gracious porches—combining to make a seamless and natural extension of its waterfront setting. Inside the emphasis is on the creation of simple volumes in which the family can gather. Connections to nature are enhanced by the great room’s large grouping of windows that open to the lake. A bridge (which runs the length of the great room) and stone fireplace frame the center of the house. Rafters, floor joists and brackets are exposed and painted, reflecting the area’s craft tradition.
