Project Details

Located on a hillside north of San Francisco Bay, this residence alternately nestles into the terrain and floats above it. As a home for a young, active family, the house is designed with emphasis on physical and spiritual wellness, creating indoor and outdoor spaces for gatherings, recreation and art. The house is oriented to capture views of the Bay, harvest breezes for natural ventilation, and take full advantage of the sun for interior daylighting. All roof surfaces have either a green roof or PV panels, reducing the buildings’ environmental impact. The buildings’ systems also make extensive use of ground source heat exchange, solar power and wastewater recovery.

The interior palette of this home reflects a casual luxury, with warm dark floors, light wood ceilings and nickel and bronze accents. Materials are designed to be a backdrop to the clients’ contemporary art collection.
