Project Details
Jim Olson originally designed this residence in 1977. However, when the clients sought out the firm in 2006 to remodel the home, we discovered that changes had been made during construction which impacted the final expression of the design. The primary challenge of the remodel was to restore the home and carry through with the original design.
One major aspect of the remodel was inserting larger windows to enhance the view towards the mountains. The original construction had scaled down the windows so that shutters could be easily reached and operated. Ironically, all the original framing was in place, which made the remodel process easier. The remodel replaced the windows to what was specified in the original design and installed remote operated window treatments that allow the owners to easily regulate shade and heat control.
In addition to carrying through with the original design intent for the home, the home was made more appropriate for the needs of the owners as they age. We also created spaces to feature the owners’ developing art collection.
