Project Details

This retreat for a New York couple and their extended family differs from traditional New England architecture (where the building sits in contrast with the landscape). Instead, it merges with the natural surroundings, using local stone and wood that blends with the bark of the trees.

The two main goals were to capture the views over the fields and toward the rolling hills, and to allow as much natural light as possible into the house. Outdoor living spaces are located around the house, allowing the owners to migrate to different spaces according to the season and time of day.
