Project Details
Record Store invited patrons to peruse, listen to and interact with thousands of vinyl records on display. Presented by Seattle Art Museum, in collaboration with [storefront] Olson Kundig Architects, Record Store was a space that attempted to remove the barrier between artist and audience, encouraging the community to participate in the curation of the Olson Kundig Architects-designed traveling installation.
Record Store was on view at [storefront] from December 13, 2011 through January 31, 2012. “Selectors” determined the activity that took place in the space each night. Because all of the furniture and record store pieces were modular and kinetic, the space could be completely reconfigured into different spatial manifestations.
This social practice project was curated by Seattle Art Museum curator Sandra Jackson-Dumont and was inspired by “Theaster Gates: The Listening Room,” on view at the Seattle Art Museum through July 1, 2012.
