Olson Kundig Architects launches [storefront]
Olson Kundig Architects is pleased to announce the launch of [storefront] Olson Kundig Architects: an experimental workspace focusing on the firm’s collaborations, research, community projects, prototypes, exhibits, and installations.
Kirsten R. Murray, AIA, Principal/Owner at Olson Kundig Architects, said “We were interested to see what could happen if we took a vacated storefront and used it as a space for design investigation through collaborations with artists, student groups, members of our community and others.”
Located in historic Pioneer Square at 406 Occidental Avenue, the [storefront] will provide space for a variety of activities throughout the coming months, including:
- Artist in Residence, Mary Ann Peters
- Washington State University School of Architecture, Summer Student Lab
Members of Olson Kundig Architects’ staff will lecture to the students on topics related to professional practice, ranging from sustainability to firm management, as well as providing mentorship and studio critiques. Students will also take part in aspects of the firm’s international internship program, as well as office events like Thursday evening crits.
- Seattle Design Festival Events
- Photo-Documentary
The firm is exploring other uses for the [storefront], including workspace for a public art installation and a stage for the firm’s entry to Park(ing) Day Seattle 2011. More details will be released as the summer progresses.
